Here's a really generic speech I wrote about how we can improve Singapore? How Singapore can improve in the future? I don't remember probably because I blocked it from my memory to protect myself from the embarrassment of how I was talking but not saying anything at all.
Firstly, Be brave. We didn't get to where we are today by simply standing around, letting our boundaries constrain us. Our forefathers were brave enough to dream about the Singapore we have today, and it has come true. Similarly, we need to be brave enough to dream about a future Singapore and set plans into motion to achieve it. We should not only model after other countries that are successful, but also have the courage to be the model for others. Step up and be the first to do things never done before. Which brings me to my second point...
Secondly, Be creative. The world is all about innovation and creativity these days. Singapore will naturally face obstacles in the years to come, seemingly impossible to overcome, but it's all about perspective. Creativity is something that the younger generation are being cultivated to have, whether in academics or aesthetics. This goes to show that creativity is valued to a certain extent and will prove to be useful in solving future problems. The sky's the limit, when it comes to generation of ideas. What may seem absurd at first, might just turn out brilliant in the end. All the world's famous inventions weren't created just because their inventors were intelligent, but also because they thought out of the box. For example, Singapore suffers from a constant lack of space, there will be a day where we have completely run out of space and most skyscrapers have reached their height limit. What do we do then? How about expanding underground, or connecting the buildings to make use of the empty air space, or maybe by then, mankind would have found a way to inhabit the moon or other planets then perhaps we could occupy that space too?
Lastly, Be strong. This applies to both of my above points, being brave and being creative. Those two are just the first steps, Singapore has to be strong to push through with our plans. We have to be strong to withstand internal discontentment when making the necessary hard decisions. We also have to be strong to protect our interests at the risk of angering other nations. It is also our responsibility that we remain strong and vigilant even in times of peace. Our size makes us vulnerable, but I believe that with the strength of our willpower and our will to be strong, anything is possible, and we will triumph.
Thank you:)
